Autism Awareness

Autism Awareness
Posted on 01/28/2019

April is Autism Awareness month!  Last school year, Buncombe County schools had a total participation of 875 teachers and staff wearing the autism t-shirt.  We are hoping that this April 2019 - we will have more participation from faculty, staff, parents and students. Based on last year's feedback, parents wanted to participate in this event together with their children.

This school year ‘18-’19, we will celebrating Autism Awareness day on April 2, 2019 (Tuesday).  We are offering an Autism t-shirt that employees, parents, and students can wear on April 2.  Dr. Baldwin has also approved a free jeans day as well - with the use of the Autism t-shirt.

On April 2, we will be taking group photos of all the teachers, staff, parents, and students wearing the Autism t-shirt in each school.  It is our hope that all 46 schools participate in this endeavor. We will be posting these pictures on the BCS website and social media.  Our goal is to raise autism awareness, as we stand united supporting these individuals in our schools as well as in the community.
T-shirts are $10. Sizes 2XL and 3XL and $12.00.  Order forms and money need to be turned in to students' homeroom teacher by March 8th.  We hope that you will join us as we celebrate these individuals with unique gifts!
