Our media specialist, Ms. Harvey, and art teacher, Ms. Reed, collaborated with First Grade's Creature Feature module. In the media center students read and discussed "Henri's Scissors". In art, students created collages of animals with unique features, and talked about "The Snail" and Henri Matisse's cut outs. Students were able to access background knowledge and recognized "The Snail" from discussions they'd had in their classrooms and could define "abstract art". Students focused on Wit and Wisdom vocabulary words: collage, abstract art, texture, unique, protect, mammal, camouflage, and predator.
